As a child Starlett Brown had to over come legal separation from her mother and family. She was raised in foster care from age 5 until 18. At that time Starlett saw the separation as a tragedy. She now realizes that it was the blessing that built the foundation to her soul which she needed to indoor the many storms to come. Starlett graduated in 2002 from Alain Leroy Locke High. While attending Locke (1998-2002) she was a member of the varsity basketball team, shot put, the photographer on the year book committee, and one of the founders of the Locke Student Union. L.S.U. was successful at having their unqualified principal removed and replaced with an extremely qualified principle in 2001. While attending S.M.C. Starlett realized she loved the college atmosphere, but the work force was where she needed to be. Starlett dropped out after 4 months of college life to enter the work force. Starlett's first job was as a security officer. In late 2003 Starlett became homeless. She moved with some family in Bakersfield, CA where she found out that she was pregnant. After much debate Starlett gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on July 27, 2004. Starlett continued to work a variety of jobs while doing her best to maintain and keep shelter over her child's head. In 2005 Starlett meet an incredible man who truly pushed her into her career. That man's name is Erick, he was the driving force that got Starlett interested in becoming a truck driver. Erick convinced Starlett to quit her job as a mail handler at the city of commerce bilk mail center for the U.S.P.S., to attend truck driving school. Starlett celebrated her 22nd birthday by passing her written exam for her class "A" license in 2006. She celebrated her little girls birthday birthday by going out on the road with her trainer for the first time. After receiving her first leased big rig Starlett found out that the grandfather that she grew up loving with all of her heart was a truck driver before she was born. Starlett never knew that her grandfather was a driver and that alone fueled her drive for operating 80,000 lbs of machinery on wheels. Learning about her grandfather driving helped her to realize that driving 18 wheelers is in her blood. Starlett drove over the road for a year and a half, during that time Starlett had driven all over the United States. She continued her career in the LA and Long Beach ports. Where she was given the opportunity to own her own truck. Which boosted her income from $400-$600 a week (driving someone else truck) to $1500-$5000 a week driving her own truck. starlett worked at the ports for a little over one year. She plans to one day open her own truck driving company, which she wants to use to encourage and in power the youth of today. After many years of being homeless Starlett and her family now have a place to call home. Starlett wants you to know that no matter how bad the hand is that your dealt it's all in how you play your game. She came from a mother that was on drugs and didn't want her. Starlett continues to push on and look at everything in a positive light, she won't stop or give up because all things work together for the good. Starlett continues to make sure that no one is excluded or marginalized from the many great things to come.
